Description

The drying chamber is designed for rapid wood drying in order to reduce feedstock moisture to a stable low absolute moisture content of `10-15%`. The dried wood may be used as fuelwood or fireplace firewood, or as wood feedstock prepared to the required moisture content before carbonization.

The equipment can operate as a standalone drying unit or as part of a charcoal and biochar production complex.

The drying chamber is particularly effective when integrated into a complex with EKKO-2iq pyrolysis units, as it allows for the formation of a stable stock of prepared raw materials prior to carbonization and mitigates the impact of seasonal wood moisture fluctuations.

Its main objective is rapid, uniform reduction of wood moisture while maintaining stable feedstock structure and minimizing manual operations.

Purpose of the quick drying chamber

The chamber is used for:

rapid drying of fuelwood;
preparation of fireplace firewood;
drying of energy wood;
preparation of wood feedstock before carbonization and before loading into EKKO-2iq, Multi-ECO, Carbon-Forge and other batch-type carbonization systems, which improves pyrolysis stability and charcoal quality.

Preliminary drying is especially critical when processing freshly cut feedstock under conditions of high atmospheric humidity. It is also an essential requirement for equipment operation in cold climate regions, during rainy seasons, or when the complex is located outdoors without permanent production facilities.

Operating Principle

The chamber uses convective drying with a flow of hot heat carrier. The heat source is selected according to the project configuration:

Standalone heat generator. The chamber functions as an independent dryer. The heat generator can use firewood, wood chips, pellets or other suitable biofuel.
Excess heat from carbonization. Within a charcoal-production complex, the chamber can use heat from EKKO-2iq, Multi-ECO, Carbon-Forge and other batch-type lump-charcoal systems. Thermal energy generated by high-temperature oxidation of pyrolysis gases prepares the drying agent and is directed to the chamber. This improves the total energy efficiency of the carbonization section by recovering heat that would otherwise be lost.

Drying in Mesh Baskets

Wood is dried in special mesh baskets.

This solution ensures:

uniform flow of the heat transfer fluid through the wood;
convenient loading and unloading of raw materials;
possibility of mechanized logistics;
formation of a buffer of prepared raw materials;
reduction of the load on the cars and containers used directly in the carbonization process.

The use of mesh baskets allows for the separation of drying and carbonization processes. This increases the lifespan of pyrolysis equipment containers and improves production logistics.
